A whole new world

New beginnings. Those very words sound so promising. We have all been socialised to believe in this fairytale version of reality. I’m not trying to bring a downer on them or discourage anyone from starting fresh if that’s what they desire. But lately I’ve kind of had new beginnings thrust upon me and that makes them even more challenging.

My point is not be negative but to highlight that while new beginnings can be exciting and fun, they can also be stressful and pretty frightening. While starting new is exciting often we have to leave something behind or something that we were comfortable with or couldn’t imagine being without changes. New beginnings carry with them mixed emotions.

This is where I have found myself lately and I’ve been trying to push through it. But at times I have stressed out and thought is this what I really want? can I even handle it? and today I found myself backing away. Yes this may seem like a cowardly act but sometimes you need to assess a situation more completely before you rush into it after all Rome wasn’t built in a day.

There’s nothing wrong with taking a step back and trying again. We are always told to learn from our mistakes, they don’t even necessarily have to be mistakes. Every event we experience in our lives teaches us something and shapes us. We are better equipped to handle what tomorrow brings because we made it through today.

Change can be frightening but don’t feel like a failure if you weren’t able to handle a new beginning straight away, learn to walk before you run.

(and you will be happy to know there are no more cliches featured in this post :p).
